X-Rays — A Safe and Powerful Tool for Your Smile
Dental x-rays play a key role in protecting your oral health. X-ray images reveal what the eyes can’t see, and they do it quickly, safely, and with minimal exposure to radiation. The outstanding benefit of this proven tool is that it gives your Lakeside Dental team a clear view of hidden issues, such as:
- cavities between teeth,
- early signs of bone loss,
- cysts, abscesses, or tumors underneath the gums,
- impacted teeth hidden in the jawbone,
- unusual developmental patterns.
If x-ray images identify a problem, we can determine the treatment necessary to maintain your oral health.
Common Types of Dental X-Rays
Here are some of the types of x-rays that we offer at Lakeside Dental:
Bitewing X-Rays
These images capture the crowns of your back teeth and the bone levels between them. Bitewing x-rays are great for spotting cavities and bone changes. We recommend these once a year.
Periapical X-Rays
This type of x-ray is taken when our patients are experiencing pain in a certain tooth area. Images focused on a single tooth help locate the cause of pain, infection, or damage and a treatment plan is then recommended to eliminate the pain.
Panoramic X-Rays (Panorex)
Panoramic x-rays show the entire upper and lower jaw in one image, without anything placed inside your mouth. We often use this when checking for impacted teeth or evaluating jaw-related issues. They also play a role when we develop orthodontic treatment plans.
At Lakeside Dental our patients’ comfort and safety are our priority. Because of this, we use x-rays as a helpful tool and only recommend them when truly necessary. A healthier smile starts with what’s beneath the surface — and x-rays make that view possible.
