Fluoride Treatment

Build Strong Smiles with Fluoride

Healthy teeth help make happy children. One important tool for protecting your child’s teeth is the natural mineral called fluoride. Fluoride strengthens enamel, guards against cavities, and builds a strong foundation for lifelong oral health. Understanding how fluoride works and when to use it helps ensure your child receives the best dental protection possible.

What Is Fluoride and Why Does It Matter?

Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in water, soil, and many foods. When applied to teeth, fluoride strengthens the outer layer of enamel, making it more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and some foods. It plays an important role in repairing minor damage to the teeth. Even a small amount each day, through the use of toothpaste, mouthwash, or fluoridated drinking water, results in important protection for developing teeth. Over the long term, fluoride reduces the risk of tooth decay, costly dental procedures, and tooth loss later in life. Early fluoride exposure sets the stage for a lifetime of better oral health, fewer fillings, and greater confidence.

Recommendations for Fluoride Use

Dentists recommend that children use fluoride toothpaste as soon as the first tooth appears. A small smear, about the size of a grain of rice, works best for infants and toddlers. As children grow and learn to spit out toothpaste, a pea-sized amount offers the right level of protection. Drinking fluoridated water, receiving fluoride treatments at regular dental visits, and maintaining daily brushing habits give your child the strongest defense against cavities.

I have an interesting background regarding my teeth. I won't bore anyone with the details but I was without good care for a very very long time. My second dental visit of my life was only a short year ago. (at another location) and this dentist was very mean to me. They criticized my brushing habits and the fact that I hadn't been to a dentist, even after my explanation of why. and then continued to treat me poorly just because they thought I had terrible hygiene. (I brush everyday like I am supposed to) When I came to see Dr. Rocky after my 4 months of torture he was very much the opposite. He sat next to me and let me explain all the hell I'd been through and was truly concerned with how turned off I was. He took one look inside my mouth and found something my other dentist didn't. Fixed it immediately, and almost called the other location just to yell at him for the awful job he did. He said they didn't do a thorough cleaning and said that one of the fillings they gave me was now infected due to the fact that they didn't sterilize before filling it and now I needed a root canal. YAY ME. Well none of this was Dr. Rocky's fault and I commend him for being so honest and quick with his work. He has been so thorough in everything he's done and never failed to explain everything. Always there to let me ask any questions. I have now seen him and his brother, who did my root canal, he's a specialist and they didn't want to take any chances. Not to mention I have brought my entire family here. They see his wife Dr. Cathy who is also wonderful. Please just come talk to them. You will not regret it.
