Dental Crowns

When a tooth suffers structural damage from decay or trauma, Lakeside Dental offers several trusted solutions. One of the most common and effective treatments involves the placement of a crown. A dental crown covers the visible portion of a tooth, restoring its original size, shape, and strength. Crowns come in a variety of materials; most match the natural color of your teeth, while others use stronger materials suited for back teeth where appearance matters less. A well-crafted crown blends in with your original teeth, making it nearly impossible for others to notice.

When a Dental Crown is the Best Option

Various situations require a dental crown. Here are some of them:

  • Replacing a large filling when little natural tooth remains
  • Protecting a weakened tooth at risk of breaking
  • Restoring a worn or fractured tooth
  • Supporting a dental bridge
  • Covering a tooth with severe discoloration
  • Completing a dental implant restoration
  • Strengthening a tooth after root canal treatment

For less severe cases, our dentist may recommend an inlay or an onlay. An inlay fills a larger damaged area than a traditional filling, while an onlay replaces most of a natural crown but preserves the healthy parts of the tooth. Both restorations are custom-made in a dental lab and require a simpler process than a full crown.

Placing a Dental Crown

Placing a crown depends on the location of the tooth and the type of material chosen, but most treatments require two or three visits. During the first visit, your dentist shapes the tooth and takes precise impressions or digital images. These impressions or images allow the dental lab to create a strong, attractive crown that fits perfectly between the remaining teeth. This process usually takes between one and three weeks. Once the crown is finished, your dentist arranges a follow-up visit to securely place it over the prepared tooth.

A crown feels and functions like a natural tooth. Daily brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits keep your crowned tooth healthy and strong for many years. This is Maria, and I'm using my husband's Google account for this review. As a new patient, I was impressed on their great customer service. I wanted to verify first that they accept my insurance before I made an appointment. The lady that I talked to asked me to text her a copy of my insurance to check and she will call me back. She got back to me so quickly and said that they accept my insurance. I was pleased with her effort of doing that so I made my first appointment. They have excellent communication skills via text/phone and especially in person. The staff from the front desk are very welcoming, friendly, helpful, and professional. My nervousness is gone as soon as I talked to them. As for the dentist, Dr. Cheema made me feel comfortable right away. He is cheerful, professional, knowledgeable, and he explained everything clearly what treatment I need to be done. After 2 days, he did my treatment and everything went well. His dental assistant is very nice and friendly as well. Overall, I am happy and thankful that I found Lakeside Dental in Folsom. The great reviews I read about them were true, and that's why I gave them another great review. I highly recommend this dental office to everyone looking for one.

Even though I am a hard dental patient, they were very patient with me. They did a very good job even though I have terrible TMJ. Other dentists have left me unable to eat or talk for several days. Pain is minimal aa of now.
